HO - Steam Loco Kits
NYC K-11 Pacific

The New York Central K-11 Pacific Locomotives.

The New York Central K-11 class locomotives were built primarily as fast freight locomotives, but within three years of the delivery of the last in 1913, they were increasingly assigned to passenger runs.  Later, they served as switchers, on transfer runs, and on work trains, becoming a true multiple purpose locomotive, as diesel road switchers were after dieselization.
In all, an even 200 were built in seven subclasses, the majority by Schenectady, with others by Brooks, and Baldwin, to become the second largest group of Pacific type locomotives on the entire NYCS.  The first 50, built by Brooks in 1911, were first classified as K-10, but were rebuilt by Dunkirk a year after delivery to K-11 standards with 2-inch larger cylinder bores and super heaters.   Twenty-eight K-11s were fitted with 72-inch drivers to improve their performance on passenger trains ane were reclassified as K-14s.  Another 20 K-11s were converted to oil firing, for summertime service through a densely forested route in upstate New York.  Only 11 were ever fitted with stokers, and 10 of this group were fitted with a Delta trailing truck and booster.  The others served their entire service with few changes.
